Education

Living life through constant research and critique is the learning mindset I embrace and encourage. I see it as a cycle. The world affects each individual student and sparks their practice. Then, students delve into discussion, critique, research, technique and experimentation. This, in turn, affects their approach to the world. I teach visual literacy to students by tapping into their true interests. I work to know them individually, sussing out their inspirations, their motivations, and their language. This teaching style rests on an interdisciplinary, sometimes experimental, approach.

I start by guiding group and solo discussions, emboldening each person to be self-reflective. Through this experience I hope they learn to analyze and articulate their practice. The inquiry-based approach to learning focuses on student-centered activities, experiential learning, and adaptation through students needs and growth as they pursue their assignments. I’ve honed this approach educating graduate and undergraduate students as well as many young-professionals during week-long immersive photography workshops I’ve taught around the world.
