Education

Living life through constant research and critique is the learning mindset I embrace and encourage. I see it as a cycle. The world affects each individual student and sparks their practice. Then, students delve into discussion, critique, research, technique and experimentation. This, in turn, affects their approach to the world. I teach visual literacy to students by tapping into their true interests. I work to know them individually, sussing out their inspirations, their motivations, and their language. This teaching style rests on an interdisciplinary, sometimes experimental, approach.

To do this, I start by guiding group and solo discussions, emboldening each person to be self-reflective. Through this experience I hope they learn to analyze and articulate their practice. This inquiry-based approach to learning focuses on student-centered activities, experiential learning, and adaptation through students needs and growth as they pursue their assignments. I’ve honed this approach educating graduate and undergraduate students as well as countless others during week-long immersive photography workshops I’ve taught around the world.
